About me
Hi! My name is Kees Koorevaar. I’m a Dutch illustrator and animator currently living in Groningen.
Like many artists I have been drawing and creating ever since I can remember. I have fond childhood memories of designing my own Pokémon, writing and creating little illustrated books for family members and trying to design a candy-machine out of cardboard and tape among many other things. Since I was that little kid I pushed the boundaries of what I was able to create (though sadly I never figured out how to make the candy-machine work).
I have kept that passion to create and nowadays I am an illustrator and 2D animator with a love for all things related to drawing and art. I incorporate my love for the woods, mushrooms, fantasy-creatures and counterculture. My style is colorful and most often a little humorous and I can work with a lot of software to bring my animations and illustrations to life though I never lost my adoration for my favorite traditional materials: watercolor and color pencils.
In 2019 I graduated with a Bachelors in Illustration and Animation from Art Academy Minerva with an illustrated book (“Op Zoek Naar Meer”) about indigenous Dutch plants that was nominated for the Minerva Design Award. In 2022 I graduated with honors with a Masters in Animation from St. Joost in Den Bosch with my short movie “Red Dino” that was nominated for the Wacom Talent Award during the graduation ceremony.
Among other things I have worked on multiple short movies, character design projects, a children’s book, a plant guide, some editorial illustrations and many concert posters as a freelancer. In the future I hope to work on bigger animation projects in collaboration with a studio, illustrate more for children’s books and realize my own personal creative projects.
Thanks for reading! Never hesitate to contact me for collaborations, commissions, job offers or just to talk about some creative stuff.
