Red Dino is an animated short I made as my graduation project for the Masters in Animation at Art Academy AKV St. Joost in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. I graduated with honors and my movie was nominated for the Wacom prize.
Red Dino is a short coming of age story. The main character is a little kid with too much imagination who likes nothing better than playing outside and drawing whatever he imagines. When he has to go to school, his imagination is not appreciated by his classmates and teachers. The monotonous and lonely routine that’s forced upon him every day makes him grow into a troubled teenager looking for a way out
With this movie I challenged myself to make a story out of personal experiences in a way that is relatable as well as funny. After the storyboard was done I worked on it for about 7 to 8 weeks with help for coloring and clean up from Maud van Lohuizen. It was animated in ToonBoom Harmony with some compositing and camera effects done in After Effects. The music design was done by Riley Circles, an American sound designer with experience in sound design for games.
